Plockton – Scotland at its best
Plockton is all of the things we love most about Scotland, all wrapped up in one neat package.
Whether you’re looking for dramatic mountains, romantic glens or rugged coastlines, you’ll find it here.
A thrill seeker’s paradise
Situated on the shores of Loch Carron in a sheltered bay, Plockton enjoys a milder climate than other parts of the country. This makes it an ideal destination for enjoying the great outdoors: boating, hill walking, kayaking, cycling, fishing, even swimming. (Yes, really! It can be warm enough for outdoor swimming right up until September.)
Culture
If you’re looking for history and culture (and Scotland has both in abundance), there’s plenty to keep you interested. Plockton’s waterfront, lined with quaint cottages and palm trees, is a draw for painters and photographers and the village is a hive of artistic activity. For details of the best local attractions, check out our Things to do page.
To experience a true taste of Scottish culture, head to one of the local pubs for some traditional live music or head to the vill
age hall to see if there’s a ceilidh on during your stay. Don’t worry if you don’t know the steps, the locals will keep you right!
Food and shopping
For a small village, Plockton has no shortage of interesting shops and eateries. As you wander around, you’ll discover shops selling local delicacies, traditional gifts and crafts and if you’re just looking to stock up on the basics for preparing your picnic basket, you’ll find that too.
There’s plenty of choice for eating out. Highland beef, game, and traditional take away food are all to be found in Plockton’s restaurants and of course, you’ll find the freshest seafood too. If you
fancy something in particular, let us know and we’ll be happy to give you a recommendation.
